Restorative Yoga with Yoga NidraRestorative yoga offers an opportunity to explore relaxation at its deepest through physical ease and stillness. This state allows the body and mind to align in complete rest, creating an optimal internal environment for physical, mental and energetic restoration and renewal. Expect to rest for five to ten minutes at a time in a handful of specifically sequenced yoga postures, such as gentle twists, forward bends and backbends while being completely supported in the forms via yoga props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks and eye pillows. Most of the positions are seated or supine. The aim of restorative yoga is to centre the body and mind in complete rest through breath and sensation-neutral physical positions. In restorative yoga we move away from ‘doing’ and move toward ‘receiving’. It can be a perfect compliment for those individuals seeking to address stress levels, those needing to recharge energy reserves and those looking to improve sleep quality. It is important to highlight that restorative yoga and yin yoga are different.
